Augusta Health Hosts "Topping Out" Ceremony
Nearly 100 people came out to Augusta Health for the 'Topping Out' ceremony. It's a tradition in construction to celebrate the completion of the steel structure.
The last beam is the only white one at the top of the building.
It stands out and not just for its different color.
Augusta Health Public Relations Director Lisa Schwenk said patients and hospital staff wrote special messages on that beam.
She said those messages symbolize the importance of the center.
"Some are just names and dates, but there's others that say messages with a date that their life was saved by a heart procedure or there's another one that says 'Thank God for pacemakers,' and there's another one 'Keep pumpin,'" said Schwenk.
It's been about seven months since the groundbreaking, and the new heart center is expected to open in 2013.
