For the time first time in several years, Harrisonburg will have two delegates at this year's Democratic National Convention.
Five people will represent Virginia's 6th Congressional District at the Convention. Three are from Roanoke, but two were chosen from Harrisonburg.
The party selected the five from ten candidates this past we eked. One is recent JMU graduate Dan Richardson. The other is local Democratic Committee member Bill Ney. He's had a life long goal of going to the convention since his dad went to the one in 1932!
"My father went to the Democratic Convention as a young man. He always told me he enjoyed it and that it was a great opportunity. I'm really excited," Ney said.
Ney says this is the first time in the last 12 years that someone from Harrisonburg is going.
The convention is the first week of September. It's just a few hours away in Charlotte, North Carolina.
