JMU Archery Club Proud of Olympic Medalist Alum

JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY, Va -- An alum of James Madison University, Jacob Wukie, is a silver medalist in the men's archery team round of the Olympics. Paired with two other Americans, Wukie helped to capture the first US medal in the London games.

The 26-year-old Ohio native graduated from JMU in 2009. While at JMU, Wukie trained with the university's archery club. That was where he first learned to shoot the type of bow that is used in the Olympics. The bow is called a recurve bow.

While in college, he became a national champion and an All-American. Wukie's former coach at JMU, Bob Ryder, said this is an exciting time for him and the JMU archery program.

“Awfully proud, awfully proud. Its a dream I chased, being in the Olympics, for years,” said Ryder. “Finally, I gave up on it and started coaching other people who had that same dream to have one of my kids make it to the Olympics. That was quite the treat right there.”

Jacob Wukie will be competing Wednesday morning for the United States in the men's individual archery round.
