Long Running Jousting Competition at Natural Chimneys
For the past 191 years Augusta County has been home to a very unique tournament. It's jousting. On Saturday The Natural Chimney's Jousting Club went to the the track to test their skill.
We're not talking about the jousting with knights in armor. It's inspired by that Medieval tournament but competitors ride on horseback and try to capture three tiny rings on the end of their lance.
It's a test of hand eye coordination that some say takes a lifetime to master.
"It's just you and the horse," said jouster Terry Casady. "If you and the horse aren't connected, you aren't catching anything. It's pretty much just you by yourself. If you miss a ring, you can't blame anybody but yourself."
Since the annual tournament started in 1821 the track has been moved around Natural Chimneys Park four times. The current track has been used for the past 25 years.
