President Obama to Visit Charlottesville Next Wednesday

Posted: 8:04 AM Aug 22, 2012

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- President Barack Obama is coming back to Virginia next week.

The president's campaign announced Wednesday that he will campaign in Charlottesville on Aug. 29. A time and location haven't been set.

Obama's Charlottesville stop is the last on a swing of three college towns in toss-up battleground states next Tuesday and Wednesday. He will appear on Tuesday in Ames, Iowa, home to Iowa State University and at Fort Collins, Colorado, home of Colorado State University.

Polls in Virginia show Obama with a slim lead over Republican Mitt Romney, but with Romney narrowing the margin.

Obama in 2008 was the first Democrat to win Virginia in a presidential race since 1964 and needs to repeat the feat this fall to ensure his re-election.
