W.Va. Begins 72-hour Commercial Vehicle Crackdown

Posted: 9:55 AM Jun 5, 2012

Safety inspectors will be cracking down on commercial vehicles for the next few days.

The West Virginia Public Service Commission says a 72-hour safety check will begin before dawn Tuesday and continue up until midnight Thursday.

Roadcheck 2012 is sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.

It involves inspecting commercial vehicle, checking brake system maintenance, and preventing driver fatigue by checking drivers' hours of service.

Gary Edgell is director of the PSC's Transportation Enforcement Division. He says it's all about preventing accidents and saving lives.

During last year's initiative, the state inspected 777 commercial vehicles.

Of those, 110 were deemed unsafe and taken off the road.
