Va. Port System Could Help W.Va. Grow Exports

Posted: 1:07 PM Jul 16, 2012

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (AP) -- Speakers at a conference aimed at assisting businesses in finding cost-efficient ways to export their products say completion of the Corridor H highway system is critical to meeting those needs.

The Corridor H Authority hosted the Exporter Summit on Monday at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon.

The meeting focused on using the Virginia port system, which includes an accessible inland port near Front Royal, Va. That's not far from the end of the proposed Corridor H highway.

Three-fourths of the highway to connect Interstate 79 to Virginia is either complete or under construction. The Authority is seeking its completion by 2020 -- about 14 years earlier than federal timelines.

Corridor H Authority Chairman Steve Foster says "it's time to get it built."
