I-81 Sinkhole

Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 are back open according to District Engineer Lee Thorne.

The passing lane was closed for most of Friday afternoon and evening after crews noticed the ground subsided on the southbound left lane of Interstate 81 Friday afternoon between mile markers seven and eight in West Virginia.

After a little digging and exploration they found the hole extended under the left lane to the center line of the interstate.

Thorne says the sinkhole has been plugged.
