National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Sunday of May. The idea is to invite people to pray for the nation.
Several churches in the Valley, like First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, honored the day with music and fellowship.
Mary Beth Rhodes helped put the event together, and she said why the day was so important.
"It's a day to set aside for our nation, our country, our community, for the legislatures, for our leaders and all of the and just everyone who works out in the community," said Rhodes.
The day was created by the U.S. Congress and later signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
