A wildfire has Warren County residents panicing beacuse smoke and flames are visible from South Stonewall Jackson Highway, but officials say to remain calm.

Warren County Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico says the fire doesn't threaten nearby homes or buildings.

He says the fire remains on the property of George Washington National Forest between the 3500 and 4500 block of Panhandle Road.

The department assessed the situation yesterday, but they still aren't sure how big the fire is.

The US Forest Service is handling the situation and Warren County Fire and Rescue is standing by to help monitor the blaze. They'll be ready in the event that they need to step up.
