Riverheads Seeking Second State Title In Three Years

GREENVILLE, Va. ----The last time Riverheads took the field, the Gladiators watched Gretna end their 25 game win streak, and dash their hopes of back-to-back state titles, their season over in the state quarterfinals.

In 2012, not much has changed in Greenville. Coach Robert Casto saying the names may have changed, but not much else has for the boys in the red helmets. As for the win streak ending, that doesn't mean much to the Gladiators, as the focus shifts to bringing home their second state championship in three years.

Offensively, Casto indicated Riverheads would throw the ball more this season, but only if they needed to. The core of the offense though, will be once again, the Gladiators' ground game out of the Wing-T formation. Six starters return on both sides of the ball for a team that went 12-1 in 2011. Defensively, not much will change from a year ago, but in 2012 size and speed will both be assets for the Red Pride.

Here is the 2012 Riverheads football schedule:\

8/24 – OPEN
8/31 – @BATH CO.
9/7 – NELSON CO.
9/14 – PARRY MCCLUER
9/21 – @PAGE CO.

10/5 – @STONEWALL JACKSON
10/12 – @STUARTS DRAFT
10/19 – LURAY
10/26 – @BUFFALO GAP
