Foreign trade agreements could soon be coming to Virginia.
Governor Bob McDonnell made a phone call the state on Thursday to give updates on his job creation and economic tour.
So far, he says he's found a way to sell more Virginia products to India.
Since he has traveled in the country, he's hired two new marketing executives there.
They'll work on developing contacts for Virginia to send more goods to Indian buyers.
Last year, the state exported about $300 million of merchandise to the country.
Local farming officials say poultry products in particular could see an increase in deliveries to other countries, and Valley farmers could benefit.
20-percent of all chickens grown in America are exported, and officials say any sort of growth in poultry exporting could give more opportunities to the thousands of Valley residents who are employed in the industry.
Hobey Bauhan, who's is the president of the Virginia Poultry Federation, said on Thursday that poultry farming has always been a staple of the Valley's economy.
Now more than ever, there's opportunities to expand with customers all over the world.
He said countries with growing markets, like India, are perfect targets for local farmers.
"You've got countries that are developing their middle classes that have more purchasing power, which will provide a positive opportunity for Virginia-raised poultry products to go into their markets," Bauhan explained. "It brings money back into the Commonwealth and to the farm."
According to local farming officials, apples, wine, and wood products are also resources that could see increases in exporting.
