Cabinetmaker American Woodmark Corp. says it lost money in its second fiscal quarter as higher material and fuel costs offset increased sales.
American Woodmark said Tuesday it lost $2.97 million, or 21 cents per share, for the quarter ended Oct. 31. The company lost $7.84 million, or 52 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier.
Sales rose 19 percent to $128.4 million in second-quarter 2011, from $107.6 million a year earlier.
American Woodmark is based in Winchester and operates 11 manufacturing plants in eight states, including West Virginia.
