LOUISA, Va. (AP) -- Police are searching for a suspect in a hit-and-run wreck that killed two motorcycle riders in Louisa County.

Virginia State Police say the van hit the motorcycle's rear and the victims were ejected. The van then struck the victims and fled the scene.

State police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar said the driver of the van, 30-year-old Kenneth G. Wadford of Cumberland, fled on foot into a heavily wooded area after the vehicle broke down.

The wreck occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Zachary Taylor Highway and Days Bridge Road.

Wadford is charged with two felony counts of hit and run.

Molnar identified the victims as 50-year-old Oneal F. Newman and 53-year-old Joyce A. Herriot, both of Spotsylvania. Newman was operating the motorcycle.
