Chilean police say they have detained a Dutch man sought in the murder of a woman in Peru.

Police spokeswoman Macarena Olivares says Joran van der Sloot has been taken into custody in Chile's capital of Santiago.

Van der Sloot has long been suspected in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba. Five years to the day after she disappeared, he was the last person seen with a Peruvian woman found dead in a Lima hotel room.
