Jackson Indicted on Charges Related to Parkway Shooting

A Stuarts Draft man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to a shooting that occurred on the Blue Ridge Parkway April 5.

A Stuarts Draft man has been indicted by a federal grand jury sitting in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville on charges related to a shooting that occurred at the Rock Point Overlook of the Blue Ridge Parkway April 5.

The grand jury has charged 57-year-old Ralph Leon Jackson with one count of assaulting Christina Shay Floyd with the intent to commit murder, one count of the assaulting Floyd with a dangerous weapon with the intent to do bodily harm and without just cause or excuse and one count of using, carrying or discharging a firearm, a Harrington & Richardson 20 gauge shotgun, in relation to a crime of violence.

All of the alleged incidents took place at the Rock Point Overlook.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison for the assault with the intent to commit murder count, a maximum possible sentence of ten years in prison for the assault with a dangerous weapon count and a mandatory minimum period of incarceration of ten years for the firearm count.

The investigation of this case is ongoing and additional charges related to the murder of Tim Davis are expected. The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office; the Augusta County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and the National Parks Service. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anthony Giorno and Ronald Huber will prosecute the case for the United
States.

A grand jury indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
