Current weather conditions have made it easy for fires to start and there have been several severe ones this week.
Weather conditions led the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for Wednesday.
That warning means conditions outside including low humidity, drought and high winds are perfect for fires.
"At the present time the weather conditions are ripe for fire to spread rapidly," says David Lough of the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company No. 15.
Lough adds anyone thinking about burning should reconsider.
"Right now, anything can spark a fire like that so the conditions are really right now extreme," explains Lough.
He says the combination of strong winds, low ground moisture and low humidity is a recipe for disaster.
"It absolutely is. The fire will spread at a whole lot faster rate than what it normally would," says Lough.
The dry conditions are so bad that a barn in Augusta County burned Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were able to control the blaze within an hour.
Lough says part of being a firefighter is putting oneself at risk.
"The conditions right now, with the high heat and low humidity, that puts our bodies at risk too. The gear we have to wear increases our body temperature, so it really places a burden on our bodies to try to work these fires," explains Lough.
Firefighters say, during these dry times, everyone just needs to practice a little common sense.
"Discard smoking and materials in the proper containers. Just don't flip them out in the mulch and the grass," comments Lough.
He also encourages everyone to be cautious when it's so dry and to think about what they're doing before they actually do it.
