After weeks of wondering and waiting, a new adult store will be opening in Staunton this weekend.

Citizen's Task Force members say they won't go to the store this weekend to protest, although they do have marches planned for the future. But on Saturday or Sunday when it opens, owner Rick Krial will be prepared for any possible public outcry with added security.

The new adult video store is located at 1724 Spring Hill Road. Krial says he doesn't understand all the fuss surrounding his business, because most other cities in the country have adult stores too.

He says, "They have a right to not like it. I mean, everybody has a right but the response that I've been getting is a good response. It's a positive response.”

The Citizen's Task Force, a group opposing the shop opening, has concerns. Leader Andrea Oakes says she thinks the store will lead to added crime in the area.

"Increase in crime, especially crime towards children," says Oakes. "Also it lowers the property value, it will diminish the charm for the city of Staunton.”

Krial disagrees saying there's no evidence adult stores contribute to crime. While Krial will go ahead with opening the store this weekend, Oakes says they won't take action right away. She is currently focusing on getting the laws changed so stores like this new one won't be able to open in Staunton in the future.

"We need to get the strict ordinances on the books first," says Oakes. "Once we've accomplished that, then we'll set our sights on the porn shop that has opened and we are discussing picketing, protesting, even having a march.”
