A day care in Staunton is badly damaged after a fire broke out late Saturday night.
Firefighters were dispatched to the Little Wonders Daycare on Green Hills Road. When they arrived, they saw smoke pouring from the front of the building.
The fire department had the flames under control within five minutes, but they had to tear down part of the ceiling and wall.
They believe the cause of the fire can be traced to the heater in a fish tank. Firefighters say they were fortunate to catch the blaze so early.
"It was contained to just the area around the fish tank. We were initially dispatched for a fire alarm, and that's what caught it early," says Capt. Jason Ball of the Staunton Fire Department.
Firefighters from Staunton and Augusta County responded to the fire. They say though the damage was minimized by a quick response.
With the damage done, the day care will not be open for business Monday morning. The kids will be taken to the Little Wonders Enrichment Center instead.
