After months of debate about an adult store in Staunton, legal action has been taken against the store owner. An undercover investigation has led to eight felony and four misdemeanor obscenity charges against the store owner and his corporation.

"The citizens have spoken, they do not want pornography in Staunton," says Andrea Oakes, Citizens Task Force.

Thursday, she and the group got closer to their reward after pushing for action for the past several weeks.

"The best end is to have the strict ordinances placed on the books in the city of Staunton," says Oakes. "Also, if the pornography shop owner is guilty of any crime that he be properly punished."

After Hours Video owner Rick Krial says he's being targeted, and wonders why Back Stage Video isn't receiving the same attention.

"Backstage Video is actually in the County, so Ray Robertson does not have jurisdiction over that particular store," says Oakes. "Certainly that is a concern."

However, the adult store hasn't given up. Right next to the register, lies a petition of their own defending their First Amendment rights. They have more than ten pages of signatures, and employees say people enter the store just to sign it.

The Citizens Task Force has gotten closer to their goal, but this still isn't the end. Oakes predicts that several hundred citizens will come out to vote at an ordinance hearing, though she doesn't if they'll all fit in the chamber.

She says, "We're certainly going to try. We're looking at several hundred people coming out. There truly is an outcry in the city of Staunton for the ordinance."

After Hours Video employees say Krial left immediately to speak with his lawyer after learning of the indictment. The vote on the ordinance is set for Thursday, November 8.

So there is problem with the content of a store? Fact: Sheetz, and other gas stations, in Staunton and Augusta Co. sell the same things, as well as Kroger's, the mall, your T.V. company, whether it be cable or satellite, and guess what, we don't have to be 18 to go into a gas station or watch T.V. now do we? If you don't like what he's selling then don't go into his store. Its not like he lets underaged kids browse his shelves, he ID's everyone that comes in and if that person isn't old enough then they have to leave. The windows are covered so nobody can see inside the store, and if you don't like it forget about it. He's trying to make a living just like you and me. He might not agree with your line of work but that doesn't make it wrong.

I don't recall him shoving anything down anyone's throat. He opened a store and then you and your crew made a huge ruckus and started shoving what you believe down everyone elses throats. Your behaviour is the only thing obscene I've seen. If we are going to ban porn we'd better be banning the bible too because I'm afraid I don't agree with it.
