Alexis Reddick woke up in the middle of the night and traveled more than three hours to get to Lexington. And she wasn't alone.

"We got here at 6:45 probably and have been here since then," Reddick said. "It was freezing cold; there were people everywhere. We couldn't believe it."

A few thousand hopefuls stood in line as it snaked around Rockbridge County High School.

"I'd say the entire line is probably a quarter of a mile to half a mile long, and it’s not getting any shorter," said Randall Teerlink, a Waynesboro resident. "People leave and someone else takes their place."

They are eyeing people of all ages, some to play military men and others to act as survivors of the War of the Worlds, the title of this modern remake of H.G Wells' novel.

Only 500 to 600 applications will make it out of the box. But one definite star will be Rockbridge County where Paramount Pictures plans to shoot parts of the film this month.

"It puts us on the map," Teerlink said. "It's getting to be quite a location."

And as for those who hope to be stars themselves? More waiting.

"Now we just have to wait to get a call," Reddick said.

The casting director says those who turned out can expect calls anytime between Monday and Tuesday. But for those of you who don't get a call, you'll have to wait until next summer to see the flick.
