A train derailment occurred at around 5:40 Friday morning in Waynesboro. The accident happened on the east/west Amtrack that cuts through Waynesboro.
Sections of North Delphine Avenue and Commerce Road were closed to traffic at positions where the train runs over them.
Two cars jumped the track and some rock fell from an overpass to the roads below. North Delphine Avenue was reopened at around 7:30 a.m.
Sgt. Brian Edwards, Waynesboro Police Department, says there were no injuries.
He says, "Even though there was rock that fell down on the both underpasses underneath, there were no cars or people out walking that got injured. It's fortunate that it happened when it did."
A crane is scheduled to put the train's cars back on their tracks around 10:00 a.m.
Latest Comments
The accident was not on the east-west Amtrack (sic). AMTRAK uses the line but it is CSX'S, and this was a freight train. More careful and accurate reporting, pleade.
