Suffolk Mayor Linda Johnson's husband and the pilot escaped injury when landing gear problems forced a small plane to make an emergency landing at Suffolk Executive Airport.

The city says in a news release that the twin-engine six-seat plane landed safely Thursday afternoon.

The city says the pilot, George McClellan of McClellan Aviation Services, and Suffolk attorney Jesse Johnson Jr. were the only people on the plane.

The plane left Suffolk Thursday morning and was en route to Cambridge, Md., when it experienced problems with the nose landing gear. The city says McClellan aborted an attempt to land in Cambridge and returned to Suffolk.
