The Miss America Pageant Saturday night attracted viewers of all ages, especially those who hope to one day walk in the contestants' shoes.

Tiny Miss America winners from all over the country gathered together Saturday night in McGaheysville, though iIt's not quite what you could have watched on television.

This program is, instead, a scholarship program to prepare young girls for the real stage. They say it's not all about the smile. These girls have raised thousands of dollars for charities across the Commonwealth.

"She's gone from door to door. They just go and they ask people. We had a benefit pageant also where we raised $27,000 last year," says Gail Jones, Director of the Tiny Miss America Pageant.

"I tell everybody to raise more money for charities than they do right now," says 8-year-old Madison Perry.

"We work with some of the girls that have terminal illnesses and cancer and crown them as winners over their illnesses," says Miss Central Virginia, Shannon Beam.

"I've actually raised thousands of dollars for a career center at my high school and I've traveled the country preaching the importance of education," says 15-year-old Heather Conley.

The girls have raised about $30,000 total for various charities.

Thanks so much for seeing the importance of what our girls do. Your report brought awareness to the general public about the most important part of pageantry which is friendship, fun and community service. Thanks for the coverage.
