The governor of Virginia believes the Commonwealth will play an important role in the primaries.

Governor Tim Kaine says Virginia’s primary on February 12, known as the Chesapeake Primary, will be a good time for residents to spend some quality time with the candidates.

Kaine says it's often easier for voters to make up their minds when they can meet a candidate up close and personal.

"I like the fact that Virginia is not on a day where there’s 25 states," says Kaine. "We're going to get some very focused attention by the candidates in both parties over the next week."

Kaine is backing Barack Obama, whom he thinks will do very well in the Virginia primary. He was the first governor to support the senator.
