With several shootings at schools and government building in the last couple of weeks, many people are wondering if there were warning signs beforehand that could have prevented the shooter from pulling the trigger.
A local psychologist says if teachers and fellow students notice other students experiencing social isolation, intense feelings of rejection, or sudden changes of behavior, they should seek some type of intervention for that individual. However, it still may be easy to miss these signs on college campuses.
"It's obvious that they're not appropriately taking care of themselves and they're not tending to their mental health needs and there are procedures in place where legally a person can be evaluated," says Dr. Audie Gaddis, a licensed clinical psychologist.
Gaddis says these individuals should not be ignored. You should bring their behavior to someone's attention who can provide them with help.
