Harrisonburg Treasurer Rebecca Neal returned to work Wednesday, after turning herself into the Rockingham County Jail.

Neal was indicted Tuesday on 20 counts that include misappropriating thousands of dollars of public funds.

While people may be wondering why she was back to work managing public funds after the indictment for mishandling that money, members of the Treasurers' Association of Virginia say if Neal is convicted she'll be kicked out of office by law.

For now, the only people she reports to is the voters, and they're the only ones who could stop her from working.

"There is a code section that allows voters to petition the circuit court to remove an elected official, and that's if neglect to duty, misuse of office or incompetence could materially adversely effect the conduct of the office," says Kevin Appel, Legal Council for the Treasurers' Association of Virginia.

The investigation into Neal's work is ongoing and officials say there could be further charges. Her next court date is scheduled for March 20.

I do not know Rebecca Neal. I have no opinion on wether I think she is innocent or guilty. However, I feel horrible that pictures of her in handcuffs are all over our local news. If she is innocent, how will she ever regain her reputation? Innocent or guilty, her name will always be tainted. This woman and her family needs our prayers.

Please...something is WRONG with our goverment when someone under investigation for 20 feleony charges is allowed to STILL handle others money and go to the job like nothing is wrong!?!? I worked in banking and believe me had all these "problems"occurred I would have been history.Taking an oath should mean something. The real losers in this story are the children of this person.
