After being eliminated from American Idol on Friday, Staunton Idol Colton Berry has much to look forward to on the home front.

His fans are speaking out and continuing their support of the aspiring actor and singer. He even has a growing fan club. Robert E. Lee senior Maria Lane created a Facebook group dedicated to Berry's career.

Lane says it doesn't matter whether he's in the competition or not. He's still someone to look up to.

She says, "I think we keep going and continue to show support. Win the show or not, it doesn't matter because he's still what I think people will consider an American Idol. He's done so much stuff at such a young age. He's really brought a lot of theater and the arts to this area that wouldn't normally been able to come here."

The group already has more than 1,400 members, and Lane says it's growing by the day.

I agree with "realist" but I think there's more we can do. I'm so sick of hearing about those little kids who get to the nationals for spelling bees or student athletes who score winning touchdowns in state finals while simultaneously starting a charitable organization and maintaing a 4.0 gpa. How does that affect me? It doesn't! Actually, I think we should eliminate any and all forms of "advertisitng" concerning anyone under the age of 40 not involved with a political issue that directly affects me as a community member and I'm sure "realist" and many others would agree. Thank you "realist" for your enlightened perspective and opinions and how they should apply to everyone around you.

Just because he is a local boy doesn't mean he was the best of the 12 men. Look at what an honor it was to be in the top 24! Viewers don't vote for a particular contestant because he or she lives in the same area.

The role of the media is not to play PR for tv show contestants, nor should it be. I'm not saying he isn't a talented young man, but devoting airtime or ink to his run doesn't really benefit the community as a whole.

Im very disappointed that this young man did not have more support in the valley and I feel the local media did not give enough coverage, there has been more coverage about him since he has been off the show.
