Hundreds of Harrisonburg voters have come forward to sign a petition requesting Harrisonburg City Treasurer, Rebecca Neal, be removed from her office.
The petition started late last week, and since that time, the organizer says 278 signatures have been gathered.
However, that is only about half way as 553 signatures are needed to start the court process that would have the power to suspend Neal from her job.
The man who started the petition, David Briggman, says he thinks he will get enough signatures to file the petition with circuit court by next Monday.
Neal was indicted last week on charges of fraud. She is accused of misusing more than $100,000 of city money.
Neal posted bond to get out of jail on the day of her indictment and then returned to work at the Treasurer's office the next day. Her next court appearance is on March 20.

One man's facts are another man's hearsay. There is a court case to determine the facts. In the U.S. that's how we avoid just this kind of "conclusion jumping". Opinions, hearsay, and people "thinking" they know won't mean anything in court. In court it will be just the facts mam. And then people can reach their "informed" conclusions.
No, the facts cannot be considered jumbing to conclusions nor repeated hearsay. I have removed from my eyes the blinders that were there and I clearly see that Rebecca Neal needs to be removed from office.
Obviously people love to jump to conclusions and repeat hearsay. First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
