The University of Virginia Alumni Association collected 5,500 responses to the resignation of President Teresa Sullivan and gave them to the Board of Visitors on Friday. The responses have continued to pour in, and by Monday evening there were more than 6,000.

"Alumni feel very strongly about UVa and about the time that they spent here," said Alumni Association President and CEO Tom Faulders. However, not everyone feels the same way.

"There are calls for either the Rector or board members to resign, there is a growing trend supporting the reinstatement of Mrs. Sullivan," said Faulders. Faulders goes on to say a strong majority, around 60 percent, wrote that they are not happy with how the Board of Visitors handled Sullivan's resignation. Another group, around 30 percent, say they do not know enough information to make an informed decision and about 7 percent say the stand behind the board.

"We have 200,000 alumni as you can imagine we have a lot of points of view," said Faulders.

Despite discrepancy, he says the overwhelming reaction just goes to show how much alumni care.

"It is very clear our alumni are engaged at UVa, they care deeply they want to know whats going on," said Faulders.

The Alumni Association also set up an online forum, letting former graduates publicly express their opinions and search for answers together.

"UVa has a good chance of being stronger," said Faulders. "There is nothing like a little bit of controversy to bring people together."
