Influenza remains at a level four on the Virginia Department of Health website. According to the surveillance program, level four means widespread and the Commonwealth is heading into its 10th week at level four.
Meanwhile, visitation restrictions are still in place for Grant Memorial Hospital because of flu activity. GMH’s Community Services Coordinator, Fran Welton, says only immediate family members are allowed inside the hospital.
Dr. Steven Mumbauer and Dr. Robert Fern, both with Waynesboro Pediatrics, are still seeing flu and they are also treating strep. Mumbauer has seen several children with mono, while Fern says RSV is affecting some of his patients.
Dr. Jeffrey Feit, with Page Memorial, reports a few cases of a rash called pityriasis rosea. It's a scaly, reddish-pink skin rash that looks like eczema, ringworm or psoriasis. Feit says the rash usually lasts from one to three months, but usually never returns. He also says no treatment can cure it and the cause of the rash is uncertain.
