A member of the Harrisonburg City Council is increasing her efforts to try to remove the City Treasurer from office.
Council member Carolyn Frank has signed a petition calling for the removal of Treasurer Becky Neal. Neal is charged with misusing city funds. Her court case is set for August 4.
However, the petition could spark another court proceeding that could force Neal from her job. Frank says she is actively trying to get more people to sign the petition, and she is willing to pay the fee to get the petition filed in court.
Another council member, Charles Chenault, says he has not signed the petition, and he is not interested in signing it.
The petition has about 400 signatures so far, and 553 are needed before it can be filed in court.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Neal case says Frank needs to have more faith in the judicial system, and she needs to let the jury system work.
