A forest fire in southern Augusta County in the George Washington National Forest is still burning Wednesday night. Officials say it has now burned more than 1,400 acres.

The fire started Tuesday near the Steeles Tavern area, just west of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There are about 50 firefighters on the scene, and that the fire is about 20-percent contained. However, firefighters have been struggling throughout the day.

Forest Technician Rodger Moyers explains, "It's the terrain, the steepness of the terrain. It's rough, and slow going for hand crews. It just takes them a long time to do fire lines by hand."

Wednesday afternoon, Augusta County brought in its mobile command unit.
Fire officials say it will take them at least another two or three days to put out the fire. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

I think you should update this more often. This was on the news Wed. Today is Fri. What has happened since then? How far has it grown, and where is the front line now? My home could go if it gets this far, and it would be of interest to have more up to date information from your site.
