Two individuals will be charged in connection with the March 27, 2008, overnight Interstate 64 shootings in the Charlottesville area. Friday afternoon, Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney has authorized ten charges to be placed against Slade Allen Woodson, 19, of Afton, Virginia, and a 16-year-old Crozet, Virginia, male. The juvenile male is currently in State Police custody.

Woodson and the juvenile each face:

- two felony counts of malicious wounding
- two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- four counts of maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle

These charges stem from the four shootings that took place in the westbound lanes of I-64 near the Route 690 overpass. Two of those shootings resulted in drivers suffering minor injuries.

For the shooting at the on-ramp to I-64 at Exit 114, Woodson and the juvenile will be charged with:

- one felony count of attempted malicious wounding
- one count of maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle

These charges will be placed in addition to the two Waynesboro arrest warrants served on Woodson Friday morning. Woodson has been transferred from the Albemarle County Jail to the Middle River Regional Jail in Verona. The juvenile will be held in the Blue Ridge Detention Center in Albemarle County.

“We are still awaiting the ballistic analysis results from the ATF and have been in touch with them throughout the day,” says Col. W. Steven Flaherty, VSP Superintendent. “As you might imagine, there is a substantial amount of ballistic evidence related to this investigation and it takes time to thoroughly examine each and every piece.”

Among the evidentiary items collected during the investigation is a weapon similar to the caliber of the ballistic evidence collected at the various scenes. However, investigators are not in a position to confirm that this is the weapon used during these incidents.

This investigation is still very active and investigators will continue working through the night and weekend. As investigators continue to comb through leads and evidence, additional charges against the two individuals are likely to result in the coming days.
