Waynesboro will now have a permanent reminder of a former mayor; all they have to do is drive past the courthouse.
Now the courthouse building will be named the Thomas Gorsuch Municipal Building.
That man was Waynesboro's mayor for eight years and passed away last year.
He also helped found the Augusta Medical Center.
An informal public poll had advocated to name it for William Sheppard, a Waynesboro-born African American who fought for civil rights.
But the council voted Monday night 3-2 to name it after Dr. Gorsuch.
