Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's running mate, Paul Ryan, has a campaign stop scheduled in Albemarle County on Thursday.

"With only two weeks left, actually, this is kind of fun," said Cindi Burket, chair of the Albemarle County Republican Committee.

Ryan will hold a rally at Crutchfield Corporation, near the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and the event begins at 6:30 p.m.

"We've been all working very hard, and it's nice to know that these guys are still thinking we're important enough to come and talk to," Burket said.

All attendees will go through airport-like security and are advised to bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids, or signs will be allowed in the venue.

This is Ryan's first public appearance in the Charlottesville region. He did have a photo op for the media earlier this month when he flew into Charlottesville Albemarle Airport to prepare for his debate at Wintergreen Resort in Nelson County.

"We're excited and the fact that they're coming to Virginia means that they know that this is a big battleground state and that's where they need to be," Burket said.

Central Virginia continues to be a hub for presidential politics. Also on Thursday, President Barack Obama will hold a rally in Richmond's Byrd Park. Romney will have his own Richmond rally on Sunday.

"We've been feeling this momentum since the first debate. And the polls have been progressively going up which is bolstering the base and we're excited," Burket said. "We are really excited and we feel like we have a really, really good chance to win Virginia."
