A prescription discount drug card hands out some savings, which doesn't cost you a thing; all you have to do is be a Rockingham County resident.

"There are a large number of citizens in Rockingham County that do not have a discount prescription program this allows us to offer them up to a 20 percent discount. By being a member of the National Association of Counties and participating in their affairs we're able to find out information that allow us to bring these kinds of services to our citizens," said Billy Kyger, Rockingham County Board of Supervisor.

Owning a prescription discount card from Caremark is as simple as filling out a form.

"It's just basic information to assure two things, one that you are a citizen of Rockingham County and two to give us a slight database to know where the cards are if we need to," said Kyger.

Around 25 pharmacies in the area accept the discount card. Large pharmacies like Wal-Mart and Rite Aid to smaller ones like Bridgewater and Timberville Pharmacy. The program was initiated this summer, a program the board learned about in their Hawaii conference.

"It would have been much later us finding out about it if we had not attended the conference," said Kyger.

Kyger says residents of the county's seven towns can also get the card. Now it's just a waiting game for the cards to come in.
