The storm system responsible for producing tornadoes in the Midwest came a little too close for comfort to a neighborhood in Fishersville Sunday.

Residents along Lynn Lane were shocked when a house was struck by lightning. The Fishersville Volunteer Fire Company says the strike effected wires, breakers, and disrupted phone service.

As a precaution, firefighters closed off nearby Fairmont Drive. However, no one was injured in the incident. There was minor damage, but residents say it was like nothing they've ever seen.

Nick Desimone says, "The lightning, it just went flash. It was very bright blue. It almost looked as if it was inside my house and then the thunder was just like one of the biggest noises I've ever heard."

Donna Rider says the shock took her completely by surprise.

She says, "I saw something blue light up, and then I heard this loud noise, and I just jumped out of the chair I was so scared, and then the fire department came and asked me if I had power and I said yeah."

Desimone and several other residents say the fire department arrived at the scene immediately.
