When are people going to realize that taxing the crud out of people isn't going to work?? What they NEED to do, is stop spending money for extra curricular activities for the Senators!! There is soooo much waste in the government, it's not funny. Why not cut out some un-needed things, that would save TONS of money!!

The first thing I get out of Governor Kaine's proposal is He expects Virginia's to pay for our roads alone. The gas tax is the way I see to pay for the maintenance concerns we have now. Maintenance gets their money from the gas tax. Construction dollars come from other programs. With the new constructions of roads maintenace is falling behind on our roads. All you have to do is look at the roads and feel the rideability of the roads. My concern is the way our General Assembly is approaching the money problem. All the interstate systems are to be contracted by July 1,2009. Please check and see what Vdot Cost was to contract I - 81. Fiquires I heard was between 12 and 15 million dollars for 5 years. The actual cost was above 30 million for 5 years. I do not know about you,If I missed my budget that far I would not have a job.Vacationers and truck traffic would help pay for maintenance on our roads. When was the last time gas tax was raised? Try 1987. Let's let all travelers pay roads.

I think Kaines proposal makes alot of sense. I do not understand the republicans fighting this. How often do you sell and buy a car? A $10 increase on taxes , wow! most spend more than that on non-necessities in a week. I believe the WHSV poll is not valid because all it states is , are you in favor or increased taxes? Quite misleading and non-informative question. The republicans are using the tax issue which is a non-existent problem. Whee Gov. Kaine is getting the revenue is fair to all citizens. Those who use the taxable situations the most should pay. Food and prescription drugs should not be taxed. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO VOTE NO ON PROVIDNG SERVICES AND YET DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR THEM. I read over the proposal carefully and it makes alot of sense to tax where Kaine suggest.

Why are republicans fighting Gov.Kaine on this one. If they really are fighting the tax issue ,why don't they take the tax off food and clothing which hurts the lower income persons most. Just because the wealthy would be affected mostly by this additional tax they balk. You get what you pay for and according to Kaines' proposal those who can afford to buy expensive cars ,drive alot etc they would fund their usage. This is fair and will not hit the lower income people unfairly.

I think Governor Kaines proposals make sense. The republicans fought any type of gas tax and so the governors' proposal place tax statewide on the areas for those whose usuage of services are greatesty and not affected food or drugs taxes which would hurt the lower income people most.
