The third and final public meeting on a draft of the Fishersville Small Area Plan drew an interested crowd at Wilson Middle School Tuesday night.
The Fishersville plan is a key implementation item of the Augusta County Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted in April 2007. The 20-year plan provides a great level of detailed planning for Fishersville.
Eighty percent of the county's future residential growth is anticipated to be around the town. The plan's vision for 2028 is to provide a vibrant, urban core with well-defined community boundaries, while still preserving agricultural areas.
"There's also a focus on the land use side," says Jeremy Sharp, an Associate Planner for Augusta County. "(We are) trying to get more mixed-use development, so we're not sprawling and using up the land quite as quickly."
A ten-member Citizen Advisory Committee will review public comments and produce a final draft to go before the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. Each will also hold public hearings.
