Virginia State Police are concerned about distracted driving following a deadly crash Tuesday in Augusta County. The crash happened near the intersection of Route 340 and Route 612 in Crimora.
Distracted driving includes anything from eating to listening to music to talking or texting on your cell phone. A recent study ranked Virginia as one of the worst states in the country for drivers driving while texting.
Witnesses say the driver of the silver Toyota Corolla crossed the intersection without yielding to a stop sign. Police say, though Route 340 is a busy road, it's still a safe one.
"And just as with any intersection on a primary road where cars have to stop before entering, sometimes people miss stop signs. And you need to be aware of that regardless of what road you're traveling on," says 1st Sgt. Scott VanLear.
State police say the intersection is well marked and the signs are clearly visible. However, they still urge extra caution at busy intersections like is. The crash is still under investigation.
