With gas prices on the rise, many people are looking for cheaper ways to save money at the pump, including how they mow the lawn.

Ace Hardware stores, Lowe's and Home Depot have noticed a change in how people are reacting to higher gas prices. Managers’ at all three stores say sales of Push Reel mowers have steadily increased over the past month.

Jim Campbell, manager of the Harrisonburg Lowe's, says people are looking at alternative ways to cut their grass and save a buck or two.

Campbell says, "This year, we've sold four times as many as last year. Smaller yards, we have a lot of town homes in this market. They only have a postage stamp yard. It's all the consumer needs. They don't need a gas mower or an electric mower. There's not enough yard to cut."

The average price of a Push Reel mower is between $90 and $130.
