Mr. Shiflett is correct; NCLB hurts students. Too many tests! As a second grade teacher, I was required to spend 45 minutes every day on test taking skills. When I taught kindergarten, I had to spend two weeks at the end of the year teaching the little ones how to bubble in answers with a #2 pencil. What a waste of time! Vocational education would help many of our youth far more than being required to pass academic courses that they will never use. Besides, why is it the business of the Federal government to be involved in education anyway? Localities know what is best for their students, their economy, and their culture.
