The scorching heat didn't stop people from enjoying an event in downtown Harrisonburg Saturday. They're wrapping up the Court Days Festival.
As part of the festival, people got a chance to dig through the archives and learn a little about their family's history in the area.
"As individuals who are coming downtown interested in the history of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, they can also come into the court house and do some research their past," says Chaz Evans-Haywood, clerk of the circuit court for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
With help from local experts, people searched through deeds, marriage licenses, and other documents in the genealogy room.
"I've had relatives to do this but I haven't myself. So today was a good opportunity for me to come in, just go through the books and see what I could do," says McGaheysville resident Phyllis Hensley
If you'd like to check out your family history, the genealogy room is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
