Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia and others have introduced a bill to fight prescription drug abuse. It's called the "Safe Prescribing Act of 2013."
The bipartisan legislation would reclassify hydrocodone painkillers, such as Vicodin and Lortab, from a Schedule III to a Schedule II controlled substance. The reclassification would tighten restrictions and reflect the drugs' high potential for addiction and abuse.
