Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the DC gun ban:
“I strongly believe that the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees the American people the right to defend themselves, particularly in their own homes.
Accordingly, I applaud today’s decision by the Supreme Court to strike down the District of Columbia’s near absolute ban on handgun ownership. Together with several of my colleagues, I had filed an amicus brief with the Court arguing this position and urging it to reaffirm this important right of the people.
With today’s decision, the right to gun ownership is now the settled law of the land.”
