A group of motocross riders in Augusta County have decided to boycott Expoland in Fishersville. They say their decision came after the Expoland Board did not approve an extreme sports park back in March.

The 50 or so riders say they refuse to ride on the tracks at Expoland ever again, unless the board decides to approve the extreme sports park.

"Nobody really wants to race there anymore,” says rider Cole Moore. “Everybody I've talked to is boycotting it. Nobody really wants to have anything to do with them right now."

Moore doesn't understand why the board didn't approve the extreme sports park, because there are hundreds of riders in the area.

Moore's friend, Caleb Lotts, says, "They got bikes, and they want to go ride, but they have no where to ride. And, if they do, it's always really far away, and the way gas is right now, it's killing it too."

The riders say riding helps the community and helps keep kids occupied.

Moore says, "They're always in trouble because they have nothing to do, and I think it'd really help a lot for all of the community. The kids around here, everybody is all for it except for older people."

Expoland Board President Jerry Pence says he wasn't aware of the boycott, but it's something the group has a right to do.

He says the board saw nothing wrong with the proposed extreme sports park. He says it just "wasn't the right business decision for Expoland". He also says that the Expoland Board "elected not to participate in the media."

Lotts says, "When they see not many people race at the fair race this year, they'll realize, 'Hey maybe we should have kept it.' And maybe they'll think about getting a track'."

The riders say they will continue to boycott Expoland until an extreme sports park is put in place. Extreme sports park organizer Terry Argenbright, who offered to buy Expoland from the board, says a lawsuit might be in the Board's future.

I USED TO BE IN VA AND HAVE FOLLOWED THIS STORY VIA INTERNET HERE IN SC. I CAN SAY MOTOCROSS PRODUCES GREAT PEOPLE, YOUNG AND OLD. WHAT THESE YOUNG FOLKS ARE DOING IS WONDERFUL AND I WISH YOU THE BEST. I INCOURAGE YOU TO STAY STRONG, BAND TOGETHER, GET AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN TO GATHER PETITIONS AND CALL FOR A MEETING AT YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT CENTER. YOU COULD PLEA YOUR CASE AT A BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING. IF THE OWNER OF THE PROPOSED PARK IS WILLING MAYBE HE WILL GO WITH YOU. IS HE STILL TRYING OR LOOKING AT OTHER PROPERTY. APPROVAL AT ANOTHER LOCATION SHOULD BE EASY SINCE YOU COUNTY IS BEHIND YOU. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE IS TREMENDOUS. I LOOK FORWARD TO RACING AT VXP ALONG WITH ALL MY OTHER MOTOCROSS BUDS. STAY STONG, STAY TOGETHER. SC SUPPORTS VA, VXP YOU BUILD IT WE WILL COME.
