Being a recent alum of one of the few concealed carry friendly campuses, I say cheers to BRCC. No incidents have arisen on any CCW campus from CCW permitees...and I'm not the least bit surprised. Students should have the same rights as non-students who are on campus, and it is absurd to prohibit those students who are adults from doing something they could do without penalty if they were NOT a student. If a school faculty does not like CCW, that is their prerogative (and an uneducated one at that). But to disregard state law when there is no way they can legally enforce an anti-gun school policy is simply disrespectful to students. Again, cheers to BRCC.
I agree, Dutch. The real question is why do we deny these rights? Only 1% of Americans have a permit, and of those, less than 1% lose their permits for ANY reason. These are NOT the people we need to worry about. On the other hand, many permit holders have reason to fear for their lives - women, minorities, disabled folks, etc. who are often targeted. And coming from a VT student who was here and lost a friend, it's clear that being left defenseless does nothing to protect anyone. Not sure what McConnell was talking about, "schools" are not the same as "colleges" and SCOTUS knows that.
I will simply never understand these restrictions. A law-abiding gun owner who does not cause problems off campus is simply not going to cause problems after crossing that "magic" line onto campus and a criminal intent on breaking the law isn't going to be stopped by some stupid restriction. "Gun free zones" make mighty poor armor.
