The Waynesboro Police Department report at 10:10 p.m. Friday they were dispatched to a traffic accident involving a 2000 Ford Windstar minivan and a 2004 Yamaha moped at the intersection of North Delphine Avenue and 6th Street.

Upon arrival officers found 50-year-old James Michael Baber of Waynesboro suffering from a severe head injury. He was also having difficulty breathing.

The Waynesboro First Aid Crew was dispatched to the scene and initially transported Baber to the Augusta Medical Center for treatment.

Due to the extent of his injuries, Baber was later transferred to the UVA Medical Center. Baber was pronounced dead early Saturday morning at UVA.

Based on the investigation conducted at the scene, it appears that Baber turned left onto North Delphine Avenue heading south from 6th Street and then swerved into oncoming traffic.

Baber was not wearing any type of safety helmet at the time of the accident and it is unknown if he had been drinking.

The driver of the minivan was identified as 25-year-old Nora Quezada from Waynesboro.

Quezada and her two children were not injured in the accident. However, she was found to be driving on a suspended driver's license and was charged with that offense.

What makes these people have the right to drive and no licensed and no insurance? They need to get a license and earn it like we do and go by the law

That is a dangerous intersection you can barley see if anyone is coming up fast underneath the bridge. It probably was NOT totally his fault. People need to slow down coming through that underpass. Its sickening knowing that most people that get out here on the road have total disregard for human life or the safety of others.
