The Staunton Public Library is beefing up Internet safety after Clifton Talley was arrested there for viewing child pornography online.

Library officials say they have strict policies forbidding Internet users to view any type of pornography on library machines.

Library director, Ruth Arnold, says they have filters on all of their computers but they cannot monitor the activity of people who come in with their own computers to use the wireless Internet, which is what Talley did.

Arnold says, "The library does have a wireless system as do many stores, hotels wireless now is very, very common, and that is not covered by the filters."

Arnold says she and her staff will be keeping a closer eye on library patrons who use the Internet. She says they will alert the police if they see anyone viewing an inappropriate site.
